Here at Clay Hill School we use recreational, cultural and sporting activities as key tools to help build self-image, self-esteem and relationships. We actively encourage our young people to participate in a variety of activities according to their interests with a view to helping with areas of their development.

Our comprehensive physical education curriculum offers young people the chance to participate in a huge variety of sports in the course of their education, such as:

Young people can also participate in more formal sports programmes, such as:

Enrichment
One afternoon a week is dedicated to curriculum enrichment. Enrichment sessions are scheduled into the timetable for every pupil at Clay Hill School. Activities vary but are always objective-led and must have a clear outcome. Our Enrichment programme includes:
- Visiting local swimming baths
- Visiting the gym
- Visiting a bowling alley
- Visiting museums
- Visiting castles and other historic monuments
- Gardening in the school’s horticulture area
- Duke of Edinburgh Award
Outdoor education
Clay Hill School places a strong emphasis on learning in the natural environment. This element of the school looks set to develop even further with the recent appointment of a new outdoor education specialist. Activities have previously included:
- Forest school
- Horse riding
- Mountain biking
- Environmental forest walks
- Forest skills
Community-based clubs and activities
If a young person at Clay Hill School has a particular interest then we encourage them to take part in activities by joining an off-site club or society in the local community. We will provide support to help pupils access community-based clubs. Young people from Clay Hill School have previously been involved in:
- Dungeons and Dragons clubs
- After school football clubs
- Bible reading class
- Bell ringing
- Cookery clubs
- Lego club
- Gym club
- Forest skills club
- Pottery club
- Rock Challenge (this is a national schools event where young people present a dance/music/theatre piece based on a theme). Clay Hill School pupils got through to the 2016 regional finals in conjunction with Noadswood School
A regular programme of events and rewards
We strive to provide a full experience for all our young people with regular social and educational visits occurring throughout the year. Pupils at Clay Hill School are able to take part in a varied events programme and we regularly organise activities which bring the whole school together, such as:
- Putting on drama productions
- Sports day during the summer term
- An annual summer celebration day
- Staff .vs. Pupil football matches
- Reward trips to theme parks or places of the children’s choice
- Guest visits from external speakers
- Guest visits with wildlife, e.g. owls, and dogs
