A full curriculum

Clay Hill School follows the National Curriculum.

In KS1-KS3 – We employ a tutor based approach to delivery of the curriculum. English, Maths, Science and PSHE are delivered as discreet subjects. However all other non-core subjects are taught through a carefully planned, creative curriculum topic. These are engaging topics that cover national curriculum objectives and allow for progression of skills into KS4.

Recently, one of our KS3 groups completed a half term unit of work around Italy. The title of the Topic was “Just one Cornetto” – Within this topic, young people engaged in lessons where they learnt how to and cooked Italian food; studied the geography of Italy and learnt about the history of Italy.

Working towards qualifications

As a school, we have high expectations for all the young people in our care. We offer a range of nationally-recognised qualifications so that pupils can choose the pathway that best suits their abilities and interests. These include GCSE:

  • Food Preparation and Nutrition
  • Science
  • Art
  • Humanities
  • PE
  • Computer Science

Whilst the majority of our learners study and excel within the GCSE subjects, for those who have significant barriers to academic progress, we do also deliver Functional Skills as an accreditation pathway in both English and Maths, so all young people are able to achieve.

We also offer:

  • ASDAN programmes
  • AQA unit awards
  • Variety of non-examined subjects
  • Outdoor/enrichment education

Clay Hill School believes in creating an individual learning package around a young person, not in getting pupils to ‘fit in’ to a pre-existing timetable. If a pupil has a strong interest in a particular subject field, we will look to bring in specialist external tuition for them in that area.
