Highly bespoke education packages
Newbury Manor School does not believe in a ‘one size fits all’ approach. We feel that some individuals will always struggle to ‘fit in’ to existing structures and will only thrive when they are in an environment that is tailored to their specific needs and circumstances. As such, we create highly bespoke education, care and therapy packages for each and every one of our students.
Closing the gap on mainstream peers
Here at Newbury Manor School, we never underestimate the potential of our young people. Our education and care programmes are designed to help students make strong progress from their respective starting points and ‘close the gap’ on their mainstream peers. The range of courses we offer are aspirational and ensure our young people have the opportunity to make significant academic progress based on individual prior attainment.
Functional learning
Many of the young people who join us at Newbury Manor School require support with their literacy and numeracy. Often, we find this support is better delivered in a more functional way such as part-basing the curriculum around life and independent skills, or pursuing a vocational curriculum. Here at Newbury Manor School, we pride ourselves on our ability to offer a wide range of packages meaning that we bring progress for students with a range of learning profiles.
Preventing young people from ‘slipping through the net’
We carry out a baseline assessment for all our pupils approximately four to six weeks after they start the school and then again each term. If we identify that a young person is not making progress, or it is at a slower than expected rate, we intervene quickly and effectively to ensure that no child ‘slips through the net.’
A key worker system
Newbury Manor School runs a key worker system that helps our students develop and maintain outstanding relationships. In combination with our positive behaviour management strategies, this leads to low levels of exclusions and very good attendance, in turn allowing each young person to benefit more fully from their individual learning programme.
