Oliver House School is a very specialist autism school. The young people who come here, often have very complex needs and the staff knowledge and training reflects this.
Teaching staff
The school has a total of six qualified teachers, three of whom hold postgraduate qualifications in autism. The school principal is also currently working towards a doctorate in autism. Given our staff team’s specialist expertise in working with young people with autism, the school also works closely with universities to help with academic study of the condition.
Support staff
In addition to qualified teachers, we also have a number of support staff, most of whom hold Teaching Assistant qualifications at Level 3, who work alongside young people in the classroom. We also have an in-house multidisciplinary team, comprising a behaviour analyst, CAMHS nurse, speech and language therapists and sensory-trained occupational therapists. Those delivering care in the school’s residential homes either have or are working towards NVQ diploma courses for health and social care.
Training
At Oliver House School, all staff at all levels also complete a one-week induction programme. This covers topics such as Team Teach, autism awareness, introduction to communication, sensory training, sensory issues in autism and first aid.
