Learning tailored to the individual
At Queenswood School, we aim to re-engage students with learning, making this personally meaningful by connecting it to a child’s hopes and ambitions for life. We prepare our young people for a brighter future by supporting them to achieve academically, build independence and understand and manage their behaviour.
Each pupil receives a highly personalised education, based on a broad and balanced curriculum, with opportunities for vocational learning. We get to know and understand every young person, identifying their strengths, preferences and goals for the future. Then we put together a plan for achieving their aspirations, working in partnership with students and those who support them.
Young people at Queenswood School have the opportunity to study for a wide range of qualifications including GCSEs, AQA Unit Award Scheme, ASDAN, the Prince's Trust Level 1 Achieve program and vocational accreditations. Many are supported to access college courses or undertake voluntary work in their local communities, as steps towards achieving their ambitions.
Encouraging a love of learning
Our focus at Queenswood School is on helping our pupils to progress from learning to learn, to feeling ready to learn, then inspired and self-motivated to learn. A traditional or mainstream educational approach does not meet the needs of our young people so our school environment, teaching and support is specially adapted and very different.
Queenswood School’s curriculum has a practical, real world emphasis as many of our students struggle to be in the classroom for long periods and to engage with wholly theoretical learning. The school has three faculties: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics; Life Skills and Active Living and Expressive Arts. We deliver a broad range of enrichment activities outdoors and off-site, such as art, electronics, kayaking and our forest school, which provide positive life experiences and make learning accessible and enjoyable.
