Ofsted commented...

“Leaders are determined that all pupils, including students in the sixth form, will succeed in life. Staff work as a close-knit team at Rossendale. They ensure that pupils get the support that they need. As a result, pupils achieve well.” Ofsted, October 2021

Education leadership team

We have a team of qualified teachers with additional responsibilities in the areas of SENCo, Primary, Sixth Form, Behaviour and Attitudes, Assessment and reporting, Data and timetabling.

Teaching staff

We have an excellent team of teachers, experts in their subjects who have often held key responsibilities in mainstream education before joining Rossendale. Their academic rigour, alongside the autism training we offer to all our staff, means that young people receive an education offer which ensures they have every opportunity to reach their academic potential.

We also realise the value of the more vocational route for many of our young people and have an exciting, developing programme on offer to ensure a secure pathway to the right jobs and training.

Support staff

In addition to qualified teachers, we also have a team of support staff who work as Learning and Wellbeing Mentors, a number of whom hold Teaching Assistant qualifications at Level 3. They work alongside young people in the classroom and at break times.

In addition we have an in-house multidisciplinary team, comprising of a Sensory Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist, Art Psychotherapist, CAMHS, School Counsellor, Creative Therapist and Therapy Assistant.

Training

At Rossendale School, all staff at all levels also complete a bespoke induction programme. This covers topics such as Team Teach, autism awareness, introduction to communication, sensory issues in autism and safeguarding.
