Here at Sheridan School, we encourage our young people to respect themselves and everyone around them so that they can develop and move forward as independently as possible. We encourage students to learn and grow from their mistakes and work restoratively with others so that they are able to function as responsible members of the community.
Our young people are supported to engage with activities within the community and local area, whether this is through attending clubs, youth clubs or hobby groups. Where possible we also organise for outside professionals to visit the school, for example Chef Nick Claxton-Webb from Congham Hall recently came and gave pupils an interactive cookery session.
Friday community work sessions
We recently introduced a weekly community work programme for pupils at Sheridan School, which has proven to be very popular. Every Friday morning students come together to work on community-based projects. This initially started as an in-school programme where our young people washed classroom windows and planted fruit trees in our grounds but has since expanded into the local area. Students now go to nearby community centres and help with tasks such as cleaning graffiti and picking litter.
Supporting charities
Pupils and staff at Sheridan School get involved in a number of charity events each year to raise money for good causes. Examples of charity days we have supported in the past include Comic Relief, running one mile for Sport Relief and having a cake sale for Macmillan Coffee Morning.
