Transitioning to Sketchley School

A high percentage of our students have been out of education previously, whether that is due to mental health needs or associated behaviours of their autism. Our low-stimulus environment, high staff ratios and small class sizes provide the support that a young person with autism needs to succeed and overcome any barriers they may have to learning.

Our dedicated Transition Lead works with students, parents and the Local Authority to develop a transition plan, tailored to each individual. This process will enable new students to build relationships with our staff, at a pace they are comfortable with, enabling them to feel safe within their surroundings, before becoming a full-time student at Sketchley School.

At Sketchley School, we want to create a welcoming and calming environment for our students, therefore we can also provide online lessons, if needed, for those students who are struggling to attend the classroom physically. We will work closely with the students, and encourage them to return to the classroom, as and when they feel comfortable to do so.

"Leaders have planned an ambitious curriculum across a range of academic and vocational subjects. They have developed a strong focus on pupils’ personal development throughout the curriculum. They have created different pathways for pupils to follow through the curriculum. Pupils are suitably challenged regardless of which pathway they follow."
