Talocher School’s dedicated therapy room provides our students with quick and easy access to eight different types of therapy, including:
- Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
- Art therapy
- Music therapy
- Play therapy
- Speech and language therapy
- Equine therapy
- Body awareness therapy
- Counsellors, providing access to a psychology and psychiatry
Whilst it is always up to the young person if they want to participate, we believe that therapy can be extremely beneficial. Careful and well-informed therapeutic interventions can help young people to manage their conditions by:
- Improving communication skills
- Improving their capacity to learn
- Making teachers aware of idiosyncrasies that pupils have
- Giving pupils opportunities to reflect on their feelings and experiences
- Improving relationships
- Helping pupils to learn how to cope with adversities
- Allowing pupils to move on in a positive frame of mind
- Improving self-esteem
- Improving self-regulation
- Improving distress tolerance
