Every child at Tor View School receives a tailored package of therapy, created to meet their unique needs. Our Therapy Team work in partnership with students to identify their barriers to learning and to help them to overcome these. With our intensive support, children learn to understand and regulate their emotions and develop socially and emotionally. Therapy provides them with a personalised toolkit for managing their mental health and wellbeing that will bring long-term benefits.
Staff build safe, positive professional relationships with young people, supporting them to develop, progress and become active participants in their education. Students have access to a range of therapeutic services including speech and language therapy, music therapy, drama therapy, equine therapy, occupational therapy and counselling.
A holistic approach to therapy
Care, education and therapy are integrated at Tor View School and delivered as a single cohesive and consistent approach across the school. Our therapy team work closely with teaching staff to embed therapy into daily learning which maximises its positive impact and sees young people quickly develop and progress.
Staff have been trained to be fully aware of the significant impact of trauma which means that all staff work therapeutically and holistically to support children and young people who suffer with trauma or mental health problems and whose troubled behaviour acts as a barrier to learning. In some circumstances if appropriate we follow a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) model that focuses on understanding the individual and what they may be trying to communicate through challenging behaviour, so we can better meet their needs and reduce the likelihood that this behaviour will happen.
Learning that supports personal development
The school broadens the horizons of our young people with opportunities to develop interests and aspirations. Our learning is designed to develop social and emotional resilience, communication skills, self-esteem and confidence, which help students to progress at school and equip them for the future.
