Double gold medal winning Paralympian swimmer Graham Edmunds will be visiting North Hill House pupil Nathan as part of the ‘Unlocking Potential’ programme.
Graham is providing one-to-one practical support to Nathan as he develops a community project. He will be working with Nathan to help finalise his ‘Dragon’s Den’ style presentation and offer advice and support as Nathan practises his pitch.
Nathan is one of only 22 young people selected to take part in the ‘Unlocking Potential’ project, which is delivered by AQA and the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust.
North Hill House is an independent specialist day and residential school for boys and girls aged 7 to 19 years with high functioning autistic spectrum disorders and associated difficulties.
Nathan said: “I’m really happy and excited to be chosen, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and hopefully this will help me in the future.”
Richard Herring, part of the project facilitation team, said: “Nathan hasn’t had a smooth journey growing up but I’ve often witnessed his determination to succeed, particularly in his special interests such scootering and cadets. I think it’s really important to recognise and support that spark and enthusiasm in our young people and keep it burning, which is what I saw in Nathan and he deserves a greater opportunity to for fill his potential.”
