A Frome special school’s residential provision has been rated ‘outstanding’ overall and in each assessment area by Ofsted.
In its report, following a recent inspection, Ofsted praised the “excellent partnership working with parents, carers and professionals”, along with the “ambitious” leaders and managers. Ofsted said of staff: “They lead by example, setting high standards and creating a positive environment.”
A health professional told inspectors: “All of the staff have a warm and friendly approach. They operate on sound principles and values”. Another professional said: “They encourage involvement of appropriate professionals. They celebrate the child’s success.”
Parents were full of praise for the service, with one telling inspectors: “My son has flourished and every day I see he is moving to become a young man with many strategies to be able to live a good life. If I had to rate this school out of 10, it would be a 15.”
Inspectors said, “Children and young people receive exceptional care and support during their residential stay.” They went on to praise the way the school works with parents, including how it seeks to ensure a smooth transition for a young person when they move into the residential provision.
Ofsted also commented that “the safety, well-being and success of children and young people are at the heart of daily practice” at the service.
Newbury Manor School and its residential provision are located in Newbury, Near Mells, Frome, in Somerset. It supports young people aged between 7 and 19 with autism.
The Principal at Newbury Manor School, said: “I am delighted that the hard work of the entire school team has been recognised in this way. We have always aspired to offer the very highest quality support to our children and their families, which is what motivates us each and every day. However, to have our efforts recognised by Ofsted to be outstanding as well provides us with very welcome feedback. The school is pleased to have gained the result but is already looking for even more ways that we could improve our practice so that we continue to have a transformational impact on the lives of who we support.”
