Ticehurst Hospital School has been rated ‘outstanding’ for its “effectiveness of leadership and management”, and ‘good’ overall, by the education watchdog, Ofsted.

In a report, following the recent inspection, inspectors said: “Senior leaders have high expectations and aspire for the school to become a centre of excellence. Their determination and drive have ensured that the school has improved rapidly in the relatively short period of time since it opened.

“Leaders ensure that the wider curriculum supports pupils in understanding the views of others. Tolerance and respect are at the heart of every aspect of the school.” Inspectors described the school’s vision as being strong and its leaders as “high-quality”.

The report praises the induction process and how pupils are welcomed to the school. Teachers work with medical colleagues to ensure pupils needs are being met. Inspectors highlighted the emphasis the school puts on protecting the health and welfare of its pupils. The school has good partnerships with other schools and organisations.

Ticehurst Hospital School is located in the grounds of Priory Hospital Ticehurst, in Ticehurst in East Sussex. The school is managed by Priory Education and Children’s Services, part of the Priory Group, and caters for in-patients staying at the hospital. Priory Hospital Ticehurst treats in-patients and out-patients with a number of conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorders, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, and autism.
