A Southport college for young adults with learning disabilities has had its residential service rated as ‘good’ by the CQC.
In its latest report, the Care Quality Commission, which regulates health and care services, praised Arden College’s residential provision for “demonstrating good management and leadership”, as well as “supporting people to access the community”.
A resident’s relative told inspectors that staff know their family member “really well and are like family”.
The CQC reported that staff enjoyed working at the service: “One member of staff said, “It’s brilliant, I just love my job. Another staff member said, It’s just lovely here, I love it”. Inspectors went on to say: “Relatives told us they felt they were listened to and staff acted on their views and opinions. A relative said, “There is excellent communication, they call us every week to update us on how they are doing, this makes us feel we are involved”.
Residents are “supported to access the community for meals and trips out”. The service helps them to organise work placements, to enhance their independence, employment and life skills.
Arden College’s main site is located in Southport, Lancashire, is a specialist day and residential college for students aged 16-25 years with learning difficulties and disabilities and/or behavioural and social difficulties.
Principal of Arden College, said: “This is a brilliant report, I am thrilled with the outcome. We have a great team here; it is very pleasing to read that our residential provision is so highly regarded by the CQC and residents’ families.”
