At North West Hospital School, each ward has therapy input that is personalised to the cohorts need. This is incorporated into the student’s educational timetable. At times, there may be support from education staff, in certain groups run by therapy teams. The therapy groups currently offered are:
- Art therapy
- Occupational therapy groups
- Dialectical behaviour therapy skills
- Psychology
- 1:1 sessions
- Coping skills
- Community meetings
The overall therapy received is part of our hospitals clinical model. This is aimed at providing young people with an intensive, multi-disciplinary, bio-psycho social therapeutic programme, which is evidence based. The aims of the interventions will be directed towards a rapid reduction of symptoms whilst promoting self-management and recovery.
As much as young people who are admitted can be acutely unwell, the overarching principle would be for young people to be engaged in their care and treatment as much as possible and for this to be provided by appropriately qualified and trained individuals.
