Underhill Farm is a spacious children’s home located in a quiet rural setting in Worcestershire. We support three young people aged 11-18 years with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and a range of conduct orders. The young people will also have a statement of educational needs as a result of emotional and behavioural difficulties. Our pretty cottage is located adjacent to farmland and a large wood, with opportunities for scenic walks.
Supporting the needs of the young people
Our mission is to become a centre of excellence for residential care, education and therapy, serving children and young people who have social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. To achieve this goal, we have a comprehensive and ongoing staff training programme. We see our primary function as the management of change through a positive residential experience. Underhill Farm should be an opportunity for ‘a new beginning’. We strive to create a learning environment, where positive approaches produce positive outcomes, which aim to compensate for past failure and prepare the young people for the future.
The staff roles include a Deputy Manager or Team Leader on shift across the three teams, with the remainder of the teams made up with residential support workers. Underhill Farm predominantly runs on 1-1 funded placements or group living placements. The staff are trained in a variety of courses, some of which are face-to-face and some of which are completed through E-Learning. Some of the skilled training that is undertaken includes Safeguarding, Fire Marshall, Emergency First-Aid, Team Teach restrictive physical intervention training, Behaviour Management.
